William Calley is a former Lieutenant who said in a statement that there is not a single day in my life that the regret was not felt by me for what was happened in My Lai that day. Calley further said that I am very sorry and I feel sorrow for the American soldiers that were involved in the battle and their families, for the Vietnamese who were killed and for their families.

William Calley was addressing in Greater Columbus, Georgia with the members of the Kiwanuis Club in reply to those remarks that were delivered on Wednesday against him. The killing that was occurred in My Lai which is a South Vietnamese hamlet area on March 16, 1968 encouraged extensive outrage across the world.

The massive destruction was started under the command of William Calley when the men from Charlie Company (under command of William Calley) opened fire on general public during a mission in My Lai and neighboring villages under the title of “search and destroy”. And the targets of that killing were children, women and old men.

All the people were innocent and unarmed as most of the people were working in the fields. Although the exact figure of the murdered people is still a dispute but according to the estimates of US Army, between 350 to 500 unarmed innocent civilians were killed during the attack of Charlie Company working under the supervision of William Calley that day in My Lai.
