Kennett Square Mushroom Festival 2009 is going to be held today on September 12 and 13, 2009. This is the 24th annual event of this festival which is hosted by Tiny Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, having population around 5,000 and this Tiny Kennett Square is well known as the world’s capital of the mushroom. Around 496 million pounds are being produced by the Pennsylvania through this annual event which is 63% of the whole nation’s crop.
If we look for the history of mushrooms, first of all they were cultivated by two florists in 1896 in the Kennett Square, United States and since then gradually mushroom of Pennsylvania has become the number one cash crop in the country and to me only this reason is enough to celebrate this annual Kennett Square Mushroom Festival.
Although there are several areas in the country that produce mushroom but Southern Chester County has the honor to be the number one producer where over 80% mushrooms of the Pennsylvania is produced in this area. The main reason to design this annual Kennett Square Mushroom Festival is to promote tourism as well as harvest in the area.
This Kennett Square Mushroom Festival is one of the most favorite festivals of the nation and over one hundred thousand visitors are expected every year to enjoy this event. Several type of mushrooms usage is being demonstrated by more than two hundred vendors through a street fair which is a featured part of this festival.
