Cary Stayner is a very famous American serial killer who was born on August 13, 1961 in Merced, California. He is currently on death row as he had murdered four women in 1999 near Yosemite, California in Mariposa County. The name of his younger brother is Steven who was kidnapped in 1972 by Kenneth Parnell who was a child molester.

His brother remained captive for around seven years with Kenneth Parnell before he escaped and reunited with his family. Cary Stayner said later on that his parents grieved over the loss of his younger brother all the time and neglected him in these seven years. A suicide attempt was also made by Cary Stayner in 1991.

Cary Stayner was also arrested for possessing of methamphetamine and marijuana in 1997 but later on the charges were dropped. He was hired at the Cedar Lodge motel in El Portal as a handyman in 1997. The motel was located outside the Highway 140 Arch Rock which was an entrance path to Yosemite National Park.

Four women were killed by the Cary Stayner between February and July 1999. These women were Carole Sund, Julie Sund the daughter of Carole Sund, Silvina Pelosso who was their traveler campanion and Joie Armstrong who was an employee of National Park Service. Cary Stayner was not declared as guilty on the madness basis as his lawyers proved in the court that the Stayner family had a history of mental illness.
